Outward 2 Hidden Items & Collectibles: Where to Find Every Rare Drop

2026-06-10·Secrets & Collectibles

Some things in Outward 2 exist only once per playthrough. Miss them and they're gone - no merchant stocks them, no enemy drops them. Here's the running list based on preview footage and community data-mining. It'll grow after July 7. I've been tracking this stuff obsessively and honestly, the FOMO is real with this game.

The Once-Per-Run Weapons

Obsidian Greatsword (Volcanic Region)

Behind the false wall in the third volcanic mine - the one with the collapsed pillar you can crouch under. The sword is mounted on the wall, no boss guarding it. Just a weapon in an empty room.

Stats unknown, but concept art shows a massive black blade with glowing orange veins. Given the volcanic region's crafting system, it likely has innate fire damage and scales with the wielder's fire resistance (more resistance = more damage, which is interesting design).

Cross-reference: the original Outward had a similar hidden weapon (the Worldedge Greataxe) that was one of the best weapons in the game despite being available early if you knew where to look. Nine Dots likes rewarding exploration over progression gating.

Frostfang Spear (Northern Region)

Inside the frozen river island cave - the one only accessible in winter when the river freezes solid. Behind the dormant ice golem. You can either fight the golem (tough fight, rewards the spear plus golem crafting materials) or sneak past it (spear only).

Spears in Outward 2 have the longest melee reach and a thrust-based moveset. The Frostfang likely adds ice damage and a slow-on-hit effect. Good for kiting the Cinder Hulk in the volcanic region if you're doing regions out of order.

The Rusted Blade (Temperate Region)

Found in the ruins of Cierzo (the original Outward's starting town, now destroyed 50 years later). Buried under rubble near the old lighthouse foundations. Requires a shovel (craftable, 2 iron + 1 wood) to dig up.

The blade is initially rusted and weak. But the blacksmith in the temperate city has dialogue about "restoring old relics" and accepts it as a quest item. The restored version is presumably much stronger. Classic Nine Dots - make you work for the payoff.

Armor Sets Worth Hunting

Frost-Resistant Plate Set (Northern Region)

Crafted from ice wolf pelts (rare drop from alpha ice wolves) and frozen iron ore (mining nodes in the northern caves). Full set bonus: complete cold immunity in blizzard conditions. Individual pieces each add frost resistance.

This set isn't hidden, exactly, but the alpha ice wolves only spawn during winter at night. If you're in the northern region during summer, you literally cannot complete this set until the season changes. Plan accordingly.

Ethereal Cloth Set (Swamp Region)

Crafted from bog wraith silk (drop from swamp spirits that only appear at night) and ley line crystals (found at ley line locations). Full set bonus: 50% reagent cost reduction for ritual casting. Each piece adds a smaller reduction.

This is the must-have set for ritual mage builds. The reagent economy in Outward 2 is brutal - silver drains fast when you're buying rare ingredients. A 50% cost reduction turns an expensive playstyle into a sustainable one.

The Vagrant's Overcoat (Hidden)

Not a set - a single chest piece. Found in a locked chest in the temperate city's abandoned district. Requires a key obtained from a random encounter NPC who only appears if you chose the vagrant starting scenario.

The overcoat has no combat stats. Instead, it increases movement speed, reduces detection radius, and adds unique dialogue options with underworld NPCs. Purely for flavor and roleplay. I'm including it because it's one of the few items tied to your starting choice - most gear is available to everyone.

Legendary Crafting Materials

Phoenix Feather (Volcanic Region)

Dropped by the fire phoenix - a rare spawn that replaces the usual volcanic region boss arena bird creature during summer. One feather per kill, and the phoenix only spawns once per summer cycle.

The feather is used in the highest-tier fire sigil recipe. What the recipe produces isn't fully known yet, but preview text describes it as "a flame that burns without fuel." Sounds like a permanent light source or an infinite-burn weapon enchantment.

Void Crystal (All Regions)

Fragments drop from any ley-line-powered enemy (swamp spirits, certain golems, magic-using bosses). Full crystals require combining 10 fragments at a ley line nexus.

Used in ethereal crafting - weapons, armor, and sigils. Late-game mage builds will need multiple crystals. The fragment grind is real. Start collecting early.

Ancient Coin (All Regions)

Rare drop from any chest, any enemy, anywhere. Extremely low drop rate. Used at a specific NPC in the temperate city - she trades ancient coins for unique items, one per coin, no repeats.

There are reportedly 13 coins total across the entire game. Each buys a different item. Nobody has the full list yet. I'll update when the community completes it.

The Cosmetic Collectibles

Player Home Decorations

Scattered through quest lines and hidden locations: paintings, rugs, furniture items. Purely cosmetic. Place them in your home (homeowner scenario) or any purchased housing. Some decorations only drop from specific seasonal events.

Music Boxes

Small items that play music when placed in your home. Each region has a unique music box hidden somewhere. Collecting all four unlocks a combined track the devs haven't previewed.

Lore Books

Not collectible in the traditional sense - you can read them anywhere. But some players like finding them all. The books tell the story of Aurai between Outward 1 and Outward 2, filling in the 50-year gap. There are at least 20 confirmed from preview footage, likely many more.

What's Probably Still Hidden

The original Outward had secret items that weren't found for literal years. Outward 2 will be the same. This guide is a snapshot of what we know before Early Access. Treat it as a starting point, not the full picture.

If you find something not listed here, the community wiki (outward.wiki.gg) is the place to report it. Seriously, if you stumble on a hidden item, share it. We'll be cataloging discoveries for a long time and this game is way too big for one person to map alone.
